Les Halles is a very lively, largely pedestrianised neighbourhood that was once home to Paris’s largest food market. The market was long since replaced by the unlovely and mostly underground Forum des Halles, France’s second most popular shopping mall, which is itself undergoing a complete renovation and reconstruction due to be finished in 2016. There are certainly plenty of things to do around here: there’s a multiplex cinema, a swimming pool, dozens and dozens of bars, restaurants, cafés, boutiques, music venues, and so forth. And it stays busy here long after the rest of Paris has gone to bed.
