In the 19th century, the former village of Vaugirard produced one of Paris’ most calm and residential neighbourhoods. Niched between the Mairie of the 15th and the Porte de Versailles, there is a mix of Haussmann, neo-Gothic and 1930s architecture, with modern, colourful buildings of the contemporary period. The elegant shopping streets of Vaugirard and Convention form an X across the neighbourhood, and hidden in the adjacent streets are cul-de-sacs with townhouses of all sizes, some even with their own gardens. The less fortunate residents can take a breath of fresh air at the Parc Georges Brassens, just next to the Sylvia Monfort theatre. Near Porte de Versailles, the boulevard is busier: there are numerous cafés and bistros humming with activity, but you are never more than a few steps from the peaceful calm of this unique neighbourhood.
