The 11th stretches north and east from the Place de la Bastille and has become increasingly popular in recent years. Less expensive than central Paris but with plenty of informal charm, the 11th is a particular draw for students and young professionals. The Place de la Bastille and rue du Fbg-St-Antoine have plenty of lively cafés, restaurants and clubs (as does the less polished Oberkampf district). The most desirable apartments are probably the converted “lofts” in the former cabinet-makers’ district along the rue du Fbg-St.Antoine. The further east you go toward the Place de la Nation, the closer you are to the vast Bois de Vincennes and the possibility of all sorts of outdoor pursuits.
