Alésia is a primarily residential neighbourhood south of Montparnasse in the 14th arrondissement. Once working class, Alésia has been somewhat gentrified over the last decade and has a lot to recommend it to potential residents: good shops, bars and restaurants; the pretty Parc Montsouris; convenient Métro connections to the centre of the city; and a generally quiet atmosphere. It’s also architecturally diverse – there are houses here that predate Haussmann’s 19th century renovation of Paris – and rents are significantly lower than they would be closer to the centre of the city. The busy rue d’Alésia is lined with discount fashion retailers and attracts shoppers from all over Paris.
