Auteuil is a peaceful residential neighbourhood attractively situated between the Bois de Boulogne and the Seine in the 16th arrondissement. Before it was incorporated into the city in the mid-19th century, Auteuil was a pretty village that served as a fashionable rural retreat for the rich. It retains a village feel even now, despite some very grand architecture, and it’s still a popular neighbourhood with those who want to escape from the rush of central Paris. It’s an expensive place to live and the wealth of its residents is reflected in the number of grand restaurants and antique and rare book dealers in the area. The Stade Roland Garros, also in Auteuil, is the home of the French tennis Open.
