Centred around the small place de la Convention in the southern half of the large 15th arrondissement, this area is primarily residential and is a popular choice for families seeking better-priced accommodation than they would find closer to the centre of Paris. The number 12 Métro line makes for good connections with the rest of the city and the area is well served by shops and services of all kinds. The bars and clubs get trendier and more numerous as you get closer to Montparnasse. The nearby Parc André Citröen, opened in the 1990s on the site of a former car factory, is one of Paris’s more interesting green spaces and has a permanently tethered helium balloon which carries passengers up to a height of 300 metres, making for stunning views of the whole of the city.
