Just east of the chic neighbourhood of St.-Germain-des-Prés, where the 6th and 5th arrondissements meet, is the square and fountain that gives this part of the Latin Quarter its name. Home to the Sorbonne as well as other prestigious educational institutions, the area retains a bohemian feel and there are numerous interesting used bookstores and print dealers and little cafés all along the Boulevard St. Michel, which runs south past the lovely Luxembourg Gardens to Port Royal. The pretty rue Monsieur le Prince is home to some excellent and well-priced bistros, many of which open late to cater to their student clients. There are some charming apartments to be found here, but the Latin Quarter’s popularity with trendy young Parisians, be they students or not, mean there aren’t many bargains to be had.
