The Champs Elysée, possibly the most famous street in the world, stretches from one side of the 8th to the other and ends at the Arc de Triomphe. There are many lovely apartments in the grand and elegant Haussmannian style in this area and they have the big advantage of being so central. Further north is the far less glamorous Gare St. Lazare and what remains one of Paris’s most important business districts. Tourists walk, eat and shop on the Champs Elysée, while rich Parisians patronise the luxury boutiques on the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré and Avenue Montaigne. The French President has his official residence at the imposing Elysée Palace and the nearby Grand Palais hosts an array of blockbuster art exhibitions. On the northern edge of the 8th is the lovely, informal Parc Monceau.
